Problems setting up Weborb.Net

Weborb.Net comes with a installer, it should be pretty easy to set it up right? Apparently not every time. I was trying to setup Weborb.Net on a colleague’s machine who wanted to get it to work with .Net. The installation reported no errors, but the console screen would load with all the tabs disabled.

The page loaded fine, no errors reported, but the tabs wont work. Reinstalling the whole thing didn’t help The funny part was, it would install fine on my machine and the only major difference between the two machines was that he had Visual Studio 2005 installed. Could that have been the problem? No idea!

Couple of hours of googling and hair pulling later, we got it to work. The problem was with .Net framework version chosen for the ‘weborb30′ virtual folder properties.

Changed it from 1.1.4 to 2.0.5, restarted IIS and it started working fine. Now, why would the folder properties default to 1.1.4 as opposed to 2.0.5? I really have no idea and the Weborb forums have only one topic discussing this issue and that too in PHP. I still don’t know what the problem was, but it would be better if Weborb could report an error when it occured, rather than just graying out the tabs.
